MRSA infection and Ayurveda

Painful swelling, oozing, swollen skin infection could be caused by Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Good hygiene inclusive of proper handwashing, showering after exercise covering cuts and abrasions and most important of all not sharing personal things like handkerchief, towels, cosmetics, razors and dresses etc help to prevent MRSA infections.
This infection was very common in certain high-risk populations, including prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, dialysis centers, and people with weakened immune systems but today it has become common in schools, dormitories, daycare centres and otherwise healthy people also.
What does Ayurveda say about infection ?
THat infection spreads when people share personal things, share bed linnen, undergarments, plates, cutlery etc and also other means. It also suggests unique preventive methods and management methods which are worthy of re investigation and adoption.

Honey is money -do you also believe it ?

Practising Ayurveda from many years I recommend and have realised it is more valuable in medicine as suggested in Ayurveda many centuries ago. Here are some home remedies for youRegular intake of honey, gives energy, freshness and enhances immunity against diseases. It removes disorders related to respiratory system, asthma, digestive system and skin.It purifies blood, removes cough decreases cholesterol and improves digestion. If you are on the obese side take honey in warm water with or without lemon juice early morning ,if you are thin and wish to put on weight consume it with warm milk.Honey is a valuable support for building haemoglobin in the blood, due largely to its iron, copper and manganese content. It is beneficial in the treatment of anaemia as it helps maintain the right balance of haemoglobin and red blood corpuscles.Take honey with raisins or saffron daily.Or consume honey with a little bit of ghee or just honey. The use of honey is highly beneficial in the treatment of irritating cough. As a demulcent or soothing agent, it produces a soothing effect on the inflamed mucus membrane of the upper respiratory tract and relieves irritating cough and symptoms like difficulty in swallowing. For this reason, it is used in the manufacture of various cough mixtures. Honey gargles are also useful in irritant cough.Pepper powder or clove powder(1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon)with 1-2 spoons of honey with tulsi leaf juice is very beneficial.Honey is valuable in keeping the mouth healthy. Applied daily over the teeth and gums, it cleans and gives sparkle to the teeth. It helps prevents deposit of tarter at the base of the teeth and decay and early falling of the teeth. Being a mild antiseptic it helps prevents the growth of harmful micro-organisms.Apply honey 3-4 times on your oral ulcer,it just heals. In cases of ulcers in the oral cavity, honey helps early healing and in preventing further sepsis. In addition gargling with honey water is very useful in gingivitis due to inflammation of the gums.Gargle using water mixed with 1-2 spoons of honey,2-3 times a day.Honey is especially useful in providing energy and heat to the body in old age. It dries up the phlegm and clears the system of mucus to which a person generally falls victim to in old age. One or two teaspoonful of honey in a cupful of boiled water that has been cooled to lukewarm is a refreshing and strengthening drink.Eating papaya fruit with honey helps prevent aging as per Ayurveda.

Nobel prize in Medicine 1995

Nobel prize in medicine/physiology was awarded to Ed Lewis, Christiane Nusslein-Volhard and Eric Wieschaus in 1995 for their work on fruit flies.Drosophila melanogaster is a fruit fly, a little insect about 3mm long, of the kind that accumulates around spoiled fruit. It is also one of the most valuable of organisms in biological research, particularly in genetics and developmental biology. Drosophila has been used as a model organism for research for almost a century, and today, several thousand scientists are working on many different aspects of the fruit fly. This link gives you the pictures of these scientists and also a little about the work that won them the award.http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/1995/illpres/
Want to win awards ? Want to create history ? Want to be of great utility to other living beings ? May be we all wish and do work at different levels leave some impressions by which we are remembered.Ask Sylvia is doing great work but may be she would not recive any such award but I value her work much and m y heart has immense respect for this great lady.

I want to live forever

Have you ever thought of this aspect of life ? Do you also want to live for ever ? Yes,I would love to live forever but with some certain conditions.Live forever with all sense organs in tact ,no disability nor fatigue and of course mental faculty as sharp as before. Is this really possible ? Can scientists make this come true ? How long a human being can live in perfect health condition ? Are there certain genes which can bestow immortality? Here are some interesting points of research which are pointers towards this aspect.AS human lifespan is too big scientists have choosen -yeasts,fruitflies,rodents,worms to prove this issue.Drastically reducing calorie intake, or caloric restriction, is known to extend the lifespan of species including yeast, worms and rodents. Previous research linked a gene called Sir2 with lifespan extension due to caloric restriction, but worms and yeast that lack Sir2 also live longer when put on a tough diet, showing that some other genes must be at work. A vast screening programme of different chemicals found that most chemicals had zero impact on the lifespan of the worms, but the antidepressant drug boosted their lives by an average of 30%.for more information you could read this site.http://www.aleph.se/Trans/Individual/Life/index-2.html#General
If our readers here would like to live forever -here are our blessings-cheeranjivibhava....

Marriages are made in Heaven

-Marriages are made in heaven -what does this statement mean ?1)That marriages are not made on earth.Or if made on Earth are null and void.2)Marriages are decided in Heaven and carried out on Earth.3)Marriages are heavenly only in heaven.Well,we seem to think of so many things but giving a serious thought about marriage is essential and that too before marriage. Here are some serious thoughts that made me ponder more and this I share with you too.Love is blind, but marriage restores its sight. Some people claim that marriage interferes with romance. There's no doubt about it. Anytime you have a romance, your wife is bound to interfere.(The Groucho Phile, 1976)My husband and I have never considered divorce... murder sometimes, but never divorce.Marriage is that relation between man and woman in which the independence is equal, the dependence mutual, and the obligation reciprocal.A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.Marriage to me is very sacred promise we make ourseleves to maintain this (friendship beyond comparison)divine relationship forever. Both the partners are equally responsible to enjoy a suceeful relationship for life.

Tantalizing aromas at Adelaide

select from to appease your appetite. Adelaide promotes itself as the culinary capital of Australia. Welcoming aromas wafting from the restaurants tell you all. You could choose continental cuisines from Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese, Italian, French, Greek, African, Lebanese and Korean.
The most popular dishes of Adelaide include Sidney Rock Oysters, Barramundi, tiger prawns, macadamia nuts and yabbies. Lamb and beef are the most consumed meats. From its earliest, Adelaide attracted immigrants from many countries, particularly German migrants escaping religious persecution. They brought with them the vine cuttings that founded the acclaimed wineries of the Barrossa Valley. After the 2nd world war ,Italians,Greeks,Dutch,Poles , and possibly every other European nationality came to make a new start. An influx of Asian immigrants following the Vietnam war added to the mix. These new arrivals have blended to form a rich and diverse cuisine and vibrant restaurant culture.O’Connell Street in North Adelaide is an excellent choice and home to forty or so restaurants, cafes and wine bars and if you don’t find anything there to tempt you then try Melbourne street which also comes highly recommended Jetty Road in Glenelg is also very popular. With lots of outdoor cafes and restaurants and both a tram and bus service from the city centre which will take you there in less than thirty minutes and runs every ten to fifteen minutes, getting there is no problem either. And for those of you who like nothing better than a good old takeaway head to the Central market area where you will find excellent Asian take out in the International Food Market or try Hawker’s Corner on West Terrace. As well as the excellent choice when it comes to food, the wine on offer is also superb compliments of the nearby wineries of the Barrossa Valley. There are quite a number of Indian restaurants in Adelaide offering delicacies with exquisite spices and flavor directly from India. Some of the popular Indian restaurants in Adelaide are Jasmin , Beyond India Restaurant, Tandoori hut, and the Taj Tandoori.Having said that, dining out in Adelaide will leave you pleasantly surprised when it comes to paying the bill as it is a lot cheaper than many of its Australian counterparts, particularly Melbourne and Sydney.

clonning Right or wrong ?

It is important that we discuss this issue here.all your comments are most welcome.Cloning attempts occurred as early as 1952, and the first successful transfer of embryonic cells occurred in 1970 Ian Wilmut, the scientist famous for the "Dolly" cloning experiment has paved the way for a completely different thought. There were other organisms that were cloned but what made "Dolly" unique was that instead of cells being taken from an embryo "Dolly" was created by using DNA from an adult ewe. The process of cloning was discovered to be simpler than what was thought. The first step is to take the cells from the udder of a Finn Dorset ewe and place them in a culture with low concentrations of nutrients causing it to starve and ultimately stop cell division and active genes. While this is occurring an unfertilized egg cell is taken from a Blackface ewe with its DNA filled nucleus taken out leaving a nucleus free egg cell that will later produce an embryo . Next with the aid of an electric pulse the cells from the udder of a Finn Dorset ewe and the unfertilized egg cell with no nucleus is fused together to begin cell division which will later turn into an embryo which will be placed in the uterus of another Blackface ewe. Eventually the Blackface ewe will give birth to a new genetically identical Finn Dorset ewe. With the creation of "Dolly" the doors of human cloning has opened the controversy and complications of cloning. First we need to know both the sides of this coin to discuss this issue.
do we need to play God ? If yes, how far and how long and to what extent ?

prayers are powerful

Saint Theresa's Prayer May today there be peace within.May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.May you not forget the infinite possibilitie s that are born of faith.May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.It is there for each and every one of us.We have many sorts of prayers and research today says that prayers are powerful and can have medicinal value.Research says that people who visit church or temple or mosque or any place of worship or pray regularly are more likely to maintain better health than people who don't pray.Less hospital visits and minimal infections are reported in those people who pray daily.Prayers give a boast to your immune system it seems.Prayers are in many forms. We see that some people think that work is worship and do their work very sincerely and succeed much better than others. What is your form of prayer ? Work or service or prayer in song form or worship form ? You are welcome to do your form of prayer but do it regularly.
As praying is a form of very intesne therapy. It helps heal not jsut you and your near and dear oens but the atmosphere too.

So pray.

Can cancer be prevented ?

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY . Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins 1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. <>

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. 3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours. 4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors. 5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system. 6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc. 7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction. 9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications. 10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. 11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON: a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells . Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt. b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved. c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C). e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it. 12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup. 13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. 14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells. 15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising da ily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

Ayurveda prescribes satwik diet to prevent cancer.

Cancer and diet

WHO statistics say--Cancer accounts for 7.1 million deaths annually (12.5% of the global total).
Dietary factors account for about 30% of all cancers in Western Countries and approximately up to 20% in developing countries; diet is second only to tobacco as a preventable cause. Approximately 20 million people suffer from cancer; a figure projected to rise to 30 million within 20 years.
The number of new cases annually is estimated to rise from 10 million to 15 million by 2020.
More than half of all cancer cases occur in developing countries
While tobacco use is the single largest causative factor -accounting for about 30% of all cancer deaths in developed countries and an increasing number in the developing world – dietary modification and regular physical activity are significant elements in cancer prevention and control. Overweight and obesity are both serious risk factors for cancer. Diets high in fruit and vegetables may reduce the risk for various types of cancer, while high levels of preserved and/or red meat consumption are associated with increased cancer risk.
Dietary factors are estimated to account for approximately 30% of cancers in western countries, making diet second only to tobacco as a preventable cause of cancer. This proportion is thought to be about 20% in developing countries and is projected to grow. As developing countries become urbanised, patterns of cancer, particularly those most strongly associated with diet and physical activity, tend to shift towards the patterns of economically developed countries. Cancer rates also change as populations move between countries and adopt different dietary patterns.
The relative importance of cancers as a cause of death is increasing. The incidence of lung cancer and cancers of the colon and rectum, breast and prostate, generally increases in parallel with economic development, as stomach cancer declines. Cancer is also strongly associated with social and economic status. Cancer risk factors are highest in groups with the least education. In addition, patients in the lower socioeconomic classes have consistently poorer survival rates than those in higher strata.
In recent years, substantial evidence has pointed to the link from overweight and obesity, to many types of cancer such as oesophagus, colorectum, breast, endometrium and kidney. The composition of the diet is also important since fruit and vegetables may have a protective effect by decreasing the risk for some cancer types such as oral, oesophageal, gastric and colorectal cancer.
Ayurveda always advocates natural food, fresh, seasonal and in moderation.Rtu buka-seasonal,mita bhuk-eat in moderation and hita bhuk-eat that which is nourshing and natural.
